It started in 1999 with a cake decorating class. My husband and I were living in Tampa and we had two young children, ages 4 and 1. I decided to take a series of classes as an outlet from my duties as a stay-at-home mom. I always loved baking, but being taught so many amazing techniques really paved the way for me, and it became such a passion. I soon became a Wilton cake decorating instructor and taught classes until I delivered my third child. My husband traveled several days a week and teaching the classes became increasingly difficult. Instead of teaching, I began baking for family and friends and soon CREATIVE CAKES was born. I made all-occasion cakes including wedding cakes, as well as cupcakes, cookies and chocolates…all from my home in Tampa. In 2007 we relocated to Connecticut with my husband’s job. Shortly thereafter, I began learning the technique of making cake pops. I started making them for others so often that I soon opened THE POP SHOP. I was baking out of a commercial kitchen making themed cake pops as well as the coordinating displays. This was an amazing experience! In 2014 we relocated back to Tampa where I continued baking several types of goodies for family and friends. URBAN SWEETS and cake parfaits were a vision in 2018 but not a reality until 2020. I am so passionate about baking, and I will continue to provide high quality, delicious treats together with excellent customer service.
